Yes indeed Donkey is right
They are a throw back from ancient times and they are actual ivory not just teeth.

Ungulates don't have teeth on their upper jaw forward of the molars and these tusks are right where you would think a set of "fangs" would be.

As the animal ages they do get bigger but not real long

I aint no expert, but leaving a less than perfect situation for a better time has always worked better for me than blazing away lookin for a lucky shot.
