Re: Possible new member of our family (most likely)

    UPDATE:
Well we got news today that Picky will be going in for another surgery on her face. So very frustrating to see her having to live her life with a surgery cone or a surgery ring around her neck so she can't get at the wound. I want to slap the person who left her this way. She is so loving and so much joy. This surgery will have the vet puting a drain into her face to help the "guck" to come out and hopefully heal quicker. Her body is trying so hard to repair itself but the infection she had, had done so much damage to her facial tissue.
Dang animals weezle their way into your heart and hold on tight. Oh well whatever it takes to get her healthy and ready to run and enjoy being a dog.

Picky came through her surgery today a little groggy and worse for wear but a real trooper. They decided to try and remove all the narcrotic (dead) tissue from her face rather than put a drain in. So she had extensive work done from above her eye into her jaw. One week to 10 days with her stitches and we can hope that the incision will heal closed. She has had so much tissue loss that its hard to say if her body will be able to heal itself. What an amazing dog she is, we are so lucky to have been the ones that our vet felt strongest about to take her into our home. She is a dog full of love. Let's hope this 4th surgery is the done deal.

Thanks bunches Lloyd, as you can gather the thread is no longer a possible new member of the family - she is completely intwined into our pet madhouse............... I do believe we owe "lefty" of HBC and his lovely wife a chinese food dinner. They bet us that the moment Picky walked through our front door that she would become our newest member and Peter said no absolutely not, no how, no way...............hahahahahaha she wasn't here 24 hours when he said Yaaa we're keepin her lol

so Picky had a pretty restful night but she woke up with her face very swollen to the point she can't close her eye and is having difficulty closing her mouth, the good part is she is still wagging her tail and able to eat and drink. She looks like somone put her in the ring with some UFC fighter. Monitor her progress if swelling isnt going down then back she goes to the vet.

Re: Possible new member of our family (most likely)

    UPDATE:
Yeterday I took Picky in to get her stitches out . The prognosis isn't good at all. As soon as he removed the stitches her face split open again. This wound will just not heal. We have been looking for every alternative possible to fix this horrible wound on her face. Her body just can't get rid of the necrotic flesh. We thought of trying Maggot Therapy but the cost to bring Medical maggots over the border is unbelievable and the wound goes so deep into her face that maggot therapy would only work on the surface and the trouble would start all over again. Unfortunately it is going to be near impossible to operate again to remove the dead tissue as she is running out of skin to stitch up. One option is to remove part of her jaw and ocular bone which would cave in her face and then her eye would have to be removed and still no guarantee that it would cure her. Right now we are waiting for canine dental specialists to look at her x-rays to see if perhaps it is possible her back molars could be the culprits however it is highly unlikely as she has no pain in that area, her pain is mostly up closer to her eye. She has already suffered nerve damage to her eye from the last surgery. She is such a good temperment and loving dog that it is very hard to think we may have to let her go. What kind of life is it for her if she has to wear a cone around her head for the rest of her life. But we will continue to look for alternatives for as long as we possibly can. There are so many things we could try if it was just surface area but we are looking at very deep tissue damage.

Please if you find an animal and it appears to be hurt, please take it to your closest animal shelter, spca or vet so they can begin medical attention right away. Watching an perfect animal go thru this because of someone's neglegence and ignoring the gaping wound is very hard on your heart strings. Keep Picky in your thoughts in hopes we find an option to cure her.

Picky is going back to the vet tomorrow with hopes of doing another surgery with more exploring of the necrotic facial tissue and the bone and teeth. I am not sure what the outcome will be tomorrow but I sure the heck hope they find the cause and can save her .

You've done so, so much for Picky - it speaks so well of you and your family and the way you care for your pets.
I've said it before many times but it's worth repeating - "You can tell a lot about people by how they treat their pets."
I sincerely hope that the outcome will be good for Picky.
