Canadian would be fine for me, for all people of Canada, but our government and legal systems are set up to give special privileges based on race. We can't have the special privileges without defining who gets them, so what is the name used to define the people that are of mixed native and "other" background?

Perhaps someone of mixed white/native ancestry could give us the "politically correct" word to use instead of "half breed?" Metis isn't always correct, IIRC, as that is someone with specific French bloodlines as well....

Then we can discontinue the use of the term "half breed" at HBC.

Our government doesn't really define people like those you describe. The Canadian Constitution defines Canadas aboriginal peoples as Indian, Inuit, and Metis.....anyone else isn't aboriginal under Sec. 35.

There is some mention under Bill C-31, that extends aboriginal rights to 'status' for several generations...but I cannot recall what they call each successive generation?? I think it was something like C-1,C-2,C-3...but I may be totally out to lunch on that.??
