I have a 1981 wingmaster that ive had handed down from my grandfather. It is still the smoothest pump shotgun ive ever used and ive never had a jam. This gun is indestructable if treated properly and cared for. If it ever needs replacing it will be with the exact same gun.

One time somebody asked me "Can I call you a cab?" and I replied "Ya if I can call you an idiot."

Within the 870 model designation there are a number of levels, if you will. Some still exist, some no longer do. The wingmaster is/was the top level, with express being the bottom. Both are functionally the same, one has nicer fit and finish. An 870 express used you should be able to pick up between $200-300, they aren't much more new, but been a long time since I looked at one. Spend some time on gun nutz, or cruise some the the canadian gun merchant sites and you'll quickly find the pricing.

870's are the workhorse that'll never let you down

Haven't seen anything bad on the Maxus yet, couple of critiques that were nitpicky. Those who have bought them, and there are a lot, seem to be happy with them. And of course like any autoloader, there are a few that had some problems. The few that I have seen reported were fixed without any apparent further problems. I don't think a person can really go wrong buying Browning on the whole.

i think the maxus is unreal... its eats any ammo you put through it without jamming. the "no recoil" is pretty good too

What is the most reliable shotgun out there?
Benelli Nova (Best bang for your buck)

    or

Benelli Super Nova (Little extra in price, but gives you more comfort if shooting heavy rounds)

Price difference between the two is less than 100$
