    First Mallard Drake

Out for the third time this season and after a couple of small hens we finally tapped a Mallard drake. This is our first drake of our short hunting career (2nd year). My wife made a fine a l'orange out of it last night.

Spirit is going on two years old now and is really starting to get it. A long shot of him on a retrieve at a WC in Mission in August.

Next up, hopefully our first goose.

congrats on the first. those mallards sure are good. I still haven't shot any of those big drakes that were coming in last year. spending to much time chasing Snows. by the way how do you like the fiber optic sight bead on your 870? I put one on my SX3 last year and can see it about 10 times better. I'm not sure why more people don't use them.
"you know there are a lot of mountain bikers in the area" she looked at me weird when I said back to her " Thats fine, I'm not hunting mountain bikers today" Brambles

Thanks, hope there are more to come.

I'm not sure if it's in my head or if it's another years' experience, but that little green dot has improved my shooting percentage. Either way I'll keep it. It just happens to fit on my Citori O/U and has improved my grouse take down too. I see quite a few of the fibre optic sights at the skeet range but not in the field.

That first picture is great! It looks like a nice area to be shooting ducks.
