Some advice if this is your first hunt... Some like to hike up on a mountain and hope for the best. I think you waste valuable time and energy doing this. Waste your energy too soon, you risk compromising your hunt. Take time to glass from the valley, assess, evaluate and then decide it you want to spend the time and energy on the mountain. Watched a trio walk up a mountain then proceed to wander all over the place, pushing sheep off the mountain. If you see a cranker, make a plan, get in position, put it to bed, and get on it in the morning. Skyline yourself a bit while going up the mountain to announce your presence to other hunters so they don't follow you up the mountain. Careful about skylining when making your approach on the sheep though. Have good optics - binos & spotting scope. Consider putting good $$ into a spotting scope. And get in shape. Anticipate 140 lb pack off the mountain with cape, horns and meat. Then back up to get your gear. This also means having a good pack and try it out with full load before you leave. There are threads that have good pack lists so have a look for those here. Oh, and last, do range practice! Lots of it. Practice shooting as far as you are competent and comfortable. Come spring time, you should be getting a bit mission focussed on this! Good luck! Sheep hunting is in my mind the pinnacle of hunting in BC.
