    Good shot for geese.

Me & the wife decided we would hunt for some geese/ducks this year, I haven't shot birds in years, I was wondering what a good shot load would be for Can. Geese, 2?. Also I heard when using steel shot (as oppposed to lead) for birds you tighten your choke up by one?

    Tighten your choke? 8O

if anything loosen it. steel doesn;t like to be constricted like lead.

use a bigger pellet and a more open choke....instead of lead #2's and a full choke, go BBB steel and mod. choke

Expect 35-40 yards of range on birds. Possibly farther, I've seen it, but I've also seen lots of cripples

Thanks guys, the last time I hunted ducks we were still allowed to use lead, so just wasnt to sure on the steel. The steel is just for migratory birds though & you can still use lead on grouse/partridge/pheasant?

Lead is 100% legal for non-migratory birds. Thank god.

    Re: Good shot for geese.

Lead on non - migratory, steel on all migratory.

Ducks - 3's over decoys, 2's pass shooting.
Geese - I've not enjoyed using steel on geese and opted to use a more similar to lead alternative for pass shooting...Bismuth (yes I know it's pricey, but they drop like rocks)....over decoys use BB or BBB. Tip on shooting geese with these large size balls...wait till they pass and shoot them up the rear. You'll have less resistance on penetrating them heavy feathers.

    Good Luck.

I just use 1 1/4 BB HV steel within 40 Yards on a mod. choke. The speed counts with steel.

    Good Luck! longshot
