    Shotgun I will have about 25 for grouse, and 5 or so slugs..

    Rifle I have 4 in the rifle, and another ten on a pouch on my belt.

    Anyhtign over 20 is just excess weight.

    i dont usualy carry my bag it stays in the truck and we just make the trip back to get them, we dont wander far from the truck

    Is it worth buying another mag for a centerfire?

    Probably not. My clip holds 10 shells but I usually load it with 5. My sling has space for 4 shells so I usually fill those too. Right now I'm down to only 6 shells so I guess I better buy a box. Thing is, if you ever need more than 5 shots, you're either a really crappy shot or your gun isn't sighted in.
    When I'm grouse hunting I usually take between 10 and 15 shells.
