I use my 10-22, my son hopefully will be ready for his first chickens by Sept. He'll be using my old Savage Model 4. Deadly accurate little stick.
Take a kid hunting its more rewarding than shooting an animal yourself!!
quick shok, their frangible so the kill them straight off. Or federal bulk pack cause their cheap 550/$12

My savage combination rifle, 22/410
handy dandy 61 cal with an ounce of #6 at under 1200fps.
I use my 7MM Rem Mag with 175 Grain Soft Points.
Shoot the chicken in the head. Bye Bye!
Happy Hunting!

410 lately, but in 2004 I got my first with a slingshot shooting marbles. I've previously used a Winchester bolt action .22, a 243 and once, a 7.62x54 R Russian.
Carl, you don't even have to hit them. Just come within an inch or so of the neck and the bullets passage breaks the neck. Used to do that back east(back when my eyes still worked properly).Originally Posted by bigwhiteys
And to MichelD, marbles have a very poor B/C. Try round ball from a muzzle loader! Fred

I've used my cheapo pellet gun before with excellent success. Last year I used a 20 gauge. I just picked up a little Marlin 7000 .22, so I'll probably use that next time if I see any... or the 20, that works well.
