What do you use for grouse?

What calibers/guns do you guys use for grouse?I will be using my Ruger 77/22 if my hunting partner has a shotgun and will back my up. If not then either our Mossberg 835 in 12 gauge or our Benelli Nova Pump in 20 gauge (already taken 3 chickens). And if we are deer only hunting and we have nothing else....then .270win.

Well when I had my .410, I used that, but got a .22 because I found that with the shot gun, no matter how good my aiming was, I found pellets int he meat! CHOMP! OUCH! But ya, a .22 should work just fine.

20 gauge 1 oz with 6 shot works for me.

.410 single shot or my cooey .22 which ever is handy at the time.

I choose primative weapons for grouse.... rocks.... any caliber that is not too big to throw. No pellets to chomp on later either. Kinda sporting... gives them a chance to get away even. Almost threw out my arm once, took me 30 rocks or more, my pitching arm just wasn't like it use to be!!

I've got a really cool 14 gauge percussion shotgun that I'll use this year. It was made between 1840 to 1850.

But mostly I let the young hunter I take with me shoot all the chickens. I get more enjoyment out of seeing a smiling kid, than shooting the grouse myself.

I usually use my Mossberg 410, but last season I killed all my grouse with my 45/70,(head shots) and a couple with my truck.

What kind of 22's do you guys use?

All that is avalible around here is the winchester wildcats, they are 40 gr. Should be good enough for ditch chickens .

Also, anyone try shooting one with a pellet rifle?
