Bow Building

was thinking of getting into the art of building a recurve bow was just woundering if any one does it. If so were do you get your supplies from and any pointers be great.

You might find building a primitive longbow would be a good exercise before you head into anything more complicated.
Just go down to the building supply at get a 1x2" piece of red oak as long as you are with as few grain run-outs as possible. Tim Baker made a winning flightbow out of kiln dried red oak so it's good stuff.
Shouldn't cost more than $15 if you've got the tools and string material.

I agree fully with what Grant said aswell. Red Oak makes a fine bow if it has a good backing material. as it's great in compression but not great in tension.
I Like Hickory as a backing for Red Oak Myself. Hickory is great in tension and the contrast between the dark Oak and Light Hickory Kind of gives it the look of a bow made of Yew wood.

And it will cost you about 15 bux in Material! So if things go sideways(as the tend to on many a first attempt)on you, it won't break the bank.

Hey 270 , look up Bingham Bow Suppies (add in Trad Bowhunt Mag) . A friend of mine did that with great results .

Have you considered a bow blank?
Marc at Chek-Mate is now offering his new Beaver Creek longbow as a blank. Most of the hard part is done for you. I have more information in the Trad Review section at www.peteward.com where I just finished a review on these blanks.
The blank is a good place to try your hand without needing a ton of equipment.
Self bows are also a goodplace to cut your teeth and learn to tiller and shape handles.
