A backcountry tip, and some deer pics

Headed up to the girlfriend's family's cabin this weekend, she was looking for a nice getaway for valentines, I was looking for deer haha

Didnt see any bucks, all does, saw lots of deer though

Also been getting ready for some backpack camping, want to get in shaoe come hunting season

I went to a Backcountry Horesemans Convention one time in Kamloops and the lady there said she dehydrates chilli and beans and all kinds of stuff in her oven and then just rehydrates it on the trail, so I tried it out, heres how it went

Here's the Beans, Going to try a Vegetarian Chilli next time, dont know if it would work with meat in it..

Here they are spread out on a cookie sheet, with some tinfoil

Put them in the oven on bake at 190 and just kept my eye on them, took a few hours

    Here they are done

No can, way less water, Way lighter

    The rehydration process

I like the beans idea! Might just try it. One thing my buddy does when we go hunting is make a big pot of chili then vacuum seal it into portions. He leaves the package on and just throws it into some boiling water, cut it open when your done and voila. This way you can cook several things at once and it's pretty handy.

Excellent tip. I like it. I have a friend that does it too.

Should work just fine with meat if you get it dry enough...long enough for a backpacking trip anway...and vaccum sealing it would be awesome.

Great idea for the beans. I love canned beans! I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for sharing!!
