    snomobile buck

A few weeks ago I posted a question about using a sled for access to an area that is to deep for my quad or sazuki. The snow varried from 1.5 to 3 feet deep. I have never hunted this high up in this deep of snow and I learned one hell of alot about deer activity. Here is the deer I shot, not a wall hanger but still meat in the freezer.

Still seeing fresh sign around here at 1600 m, the snow is only about 60 cms.

I learned that there is animals at the 7500 foot level in deep snow not just bucks but does and fawns. In about 300 meters of hiking in this spot i found 8 beds and saw 3 different deer. there was an abundant amount of tracks just off the road and in the timber.Walking in snowshoes is not so easy but worth it if you can pace yourself and find the right area. It was really nice knowing that no one had been here either, Using the sled is legal and well worth it.Also I have tried other areas in deep snow and never seen a track. I think you have to find an area that I think the deer could migrate out of in a day or less if a big dump of snow happened. I dont know this one for sure but in this spot the deer could be down to where there is barely any snow in only half a day.
