I put together this video last year when we were getting packed for our sheep trip.

Bringing this again ... whats everyone using for weekend deer and goat hunting backpacks? I dont chase sheep so most im gone for is 2-4 days and i dont pack salt either.
I have a good 65L pack but wondering if it might be too small for a deboned mule deer plus gear. Strapping tent and sleeping bag to the outside might work as theyre the bulkiest items that take up most room.
Would be interested to hear what people use for shorter trips for deer and goat.
I use my Kifaru timberline. It's a 118 liters. Use it for day hunts and everything longer. If your bringing out all the meat you'll be doing more than one trip. May want to get a bigger pack that will do all. But a decent size mule deer will yield 100 plus.lbs of meat

CARNIVOROUS MAXIMUS
And this right here is my dilemma. I know for a fact a lot of people de-bone and pack out entire deer by themselves. If the area is a 6 hr hike in, there is no way anyone has the time or energy to make multiple trips. However, as you put it, 100lb of meat, plus 35lb of gear, you're looking at one almost unmanageable pack to bring down out of the alpine. Are people just tougher than me, or are most being very "generous" with their deboning and ending up with way less meat to pack out? What am i missing?
And the 35lb of gear is fairly generous for a few days of hunting in the alpine as well.
The further back you hunt the fussier hunters tend to get. It becomes pretty easy to pass on an average ram when you are more than two days deep into the mountains.
When you decide to drop the hammer, it has to be worth it.
And remember.....pain is just weakness leaving your body.
