I will never rely solely on electronics for navigation. A small Silva compass weighs virtually nothing, takes up very little space and is great insurance if something goes wrong with the GPS.

    Re: sheep pack weight ?????

What an awesome thread this is, over the last 2 days I've read the whole thing.

Last Aug me and my Daughter(11) did a 11 day fly in goat hunt and we brought 153 pounds of gear total, including what we were wearing. although we did setup a base camp at the lake and left lots of stuff down there (cooler, inflatable boat, axe all kinds of stuff) so the packs going up were more like 20 pounds for hers and 55 for mine but man didnt pack light at all, there wasnt really much consideration for weight as we were flying in and making a base camp. but still that would be 75 pound packs for each of us. i see a few guys listing their pack weights close to that, its quite surprising

this comming summer we are doing a 14day fly in hunt at Spatsizi, and I hope to get both mine and her total gear (100% everything included in the weight) weight down to 75 pounds for the 14 days. she often carries 25 pounds on our adventures (its 25% her body weight) so she will carry that much of the weight and ill carry the remaining weight (50 pounds is 1/3 my body weight)

I don’t think you can get down to 75 pounds for two people for 14 days. That’s likely around 25 pounds or more (depending on how much your daughter eats) of food alone if you eat dehydrated every day. If I had a base camp and a cooler than I’d like to bring a few days of frozen steak and fresh veggies and fruit.

Something else to consider is an emergency situation, like getting soaking wet and running into snow. Extra warm clothes are worth packing around.
