    New Kid on the Block

Well looks like I will be making the move to Vancouver Island...Most likely to Campbell River area.
I am an avid waterfowler and have been for more than 20 years.

I have been checking out this site for the last month or so...and have been out there several times and there looks to be some great waterfowl areas to be found.

It has been proven time and again that there is no substitute for scouting...but if anyone is willing to offer a newbie some suggestions on where to start looking I would be very grateful.

Thanks and I hope to cross paths with some of you in the coming seasons.

Hello and Welcome, I'll talk to one of my non internet using buddies and see what he has to say about the CR area. But I can tell you right now it's not worth driving to the Comox Valley we have no birds.

    Just ask "Islandbowhunter"

Seriously though welcome to the site and soon enough to the island

Welcome. We'll be moving to Sayward ( 45 minutes north of CR ) late this spring and will be starting the scouting exercise too.

I don't think crowding is going to be an issue for either one of us. Locals who hunt have struggled to think of anyone who pursues waterfowl avidly.

Re: New Kid on the Block

I am looking forward to it...there are a lot of different species of ducks on that coast that we don't see many of here on the East Coast.
A couple of good months scouting and hopefully it will be a great season next fall!!

    Keith,

Leave the black duck and eider decoys in the Maritimes as you won't need them out here! You could repaint the blacks as mallards or scoters, and CR isn't quite far enough north to get into kings or euro's. You could always commission a sea duck rig to replace the one you bought from me for the east coast?

You will need mallards, pintail, & widgeon decoys though!

A boat will be your best friend for both fish and fowl, but the beauty of having nice weather and open water year round is there are lots of good deals on boats!

Give me a ring when you hit Nirvana, I'm on the island every couple of months , my inlaws are in Chemainus,

    Very best,

    Ian
