    Snow Jeep

I'm considering on converting my Jeep with a set of tracks for winter cruising the back roads. Has anyone done this or have known someone that did?

I have heard about someone runnin' a fleet of Hummers up in Whistler, offering winter "Eco Tours" with this type of conversion....

I've seen one on a trailer, the owner said the tracks were more than the Jeep but it would go anywhere. Would suck to get a flat
Take a kid hunting its more rewarding than shooting an animal yourself!!

I wonder if its cost effective vs: buying a good back country snowmobile.

I suppose you'd have to trailer it to where you're going to go in the snow

I got a Bud that converted a SxS Polaris ATV. The price to do it wasn't all that bad. MUCH cheaper than buying a decent used snow-sled.

But he hasn't tried them in the snow yet. Just boggy/swamp stuff.

One of my wonders is; If they take the vehicle up and on top of the snow, what happens when ya stop? I've had my share of sleds damn near disappear.

Getting a Jeep stuck up to the doors in sloggy snow would suck HUGE.
But with 4 biters, one would *think* it would find bite????

    Re: Snow Jeep

A guy on CGN from Churchill had a jeep outfitted. IIRC it was a bit over 10 grand. By all accounts they work very well especially in wind packed snow. But like everything there is a limit - deep enough powder and you are done. I guess you just wait for spring then
its gonna take a life time to hunt and fish all this

    Re: Snow Jeep

First time I heard of them was a year or two before the Winter Olymipics in Japan and they were supposed to have a fleet of vehicles in use there for the Olympics. The article was in Four Wheeler magazine IIRC. The writer said he saw some vehicles installed with tracks and being tested in around 4 feet of snow!
ATV television did a test on Mattracks on quads a number of years ago. They ran them through swamp/bog with no problem while other quads were hopelessly stuck in the same spots. They also ran a quad with tracks over the Sledgehammer rock crawling trail located in Johnson Valley in South Calfornia. While it was a bumpy ride, the tester said the tracks stood up to the beating and the quad did everything he asked of it.

The cool factor is awesome, but i'm sure the wallet takes a beating. I would think a full set of tracks would take a fair bit of horsepower in the deep stuff to keep moving but I could be wrong.

The deep snow gets anything moving slow. The videos I've seen show machines plowing through the snow untill they get enough speed to get up on top.

Tell me about your Jeep. Year? Model? Modifications?
