Keep in mind those are full plumage colours.
The Rocky Mountains is the Marrow of the World"Ain't this somethin'? I told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. "Make your life go here, son. Here's where the people is. Them mountains is for Indians and wild men." "Mother Gue", I says "the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right. Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline."
Phone guy I'm not sure if it's even still out there but there used to be an interactive CD you could buy called Petersons Bird guide to North America. It showed a picture of all the different types of ducks and their ranges as well as the sound that they make.
This waterfowl guide you've found is ok but it's drawings and the colors are a bit off. I lived in NB and both the male and female Black duck both had olive green bills witch I think the male having small spots if I'm not mistaken around the nostrils. Almost impossible to tell if it's a drake or a hen until you had it in your hands looking at and even then it could be the toss of a coin.
I like this site as it has pictures of what the birds look like and sound, unfortunately there isn't many pictures of birds in flight.

Actually the drake black duck has a yellow bill and the hen has the olive drab bill but they are still very difficult to pick out in the air. I usually just shoot at the largest one as i find the drake can be quite a bit larger then the hen
Example, drake black on the left
Drake black on top
Hen black on right
