    Big Blacktail

Well I went after this big buck last night....this time he lost. I have seen this guy a few times before in the same area. The wind was good last night and I got him with a 20 yrd shot. He was broadside when I drew on him but he must have shifted his butt while I was aquiring the sight picture. I ended up with a quartering to shot. Passthrough...arrow passed through the near lung and then the liver, gut, and out. He went about 60 yrds and piled up. I watched him hit the tree line, I thought he went in but that's where he lay. When I found the arrow it was covered in stomache crud. I saw when he ran away that he held his tail down and hunched his back as he ran. A clear sign that he was gutshot. I waited an eternal 2 hours before I went after him. I had called a buddy in the meantime to come and help. We found him about 5 yards from where a I last saw him. No blood trail whatsoever. The guts had plugged both holes. I called the taxidermist today and I'm taking him in this afternoon. I will send Marc some pics to post for me as I can't seem to get them small enough.
It's better to pass on a shot that you wish later you took, then to take a shot and wish later you didn't.

    Thumbs up Re: Big Blacktail

Nice Deer Steve, I just checked my email from work. I'll resize them and load up the pictures when I get home this afternoon.

I think I'm going to wipe the dust off my bow and start practicing. Where I go hunting all I see is bears so I'm probably better off hunting closer to home with my bow where the deer are.

Nice buck, it's even nicer when you snag a blacktail, they are tough to find and tougher to shoot, espescially with a stick. Congrats
Take a kid hunting its more rewarding than shooting an animal yourself!!

Congrats, very nice! Still looking for my first one with a bow...
Is the entry hole right behind the elbow on the first pic? Hard to tell.

Congratulations on your nice BT Buck . I think the BT is the hardest deer to hunt in BC and to get one like yours is special.
