I ended finding a SLIK COMPACT tripod. The weight specification is 1 lb, 5 oz, with max height of 39", and folded length of 14 1/8". Should fit in the pack nicely.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

I don't use a tripod when using my spotting scope. I mounted my spotting scope on an old wooden stock off of a .22 rifle. I left the butt the original length, mounted the scope where the receiver would have been + cut off the forend even with the front of the scope.I used electrical tape to mount scope + stock together. When i'm on hunting trips I carry it in a pack-sack + there is nothing to rattle. In use, it's just like aiming a rifle, pull it up + your looking thru the scope. I been using this for years. One of my better idea's.

That is a good idea. I have seen professional photographers use a stock like that to stabilize long telephoto lenses. Fred
