    Some old pics I scanned

got digging through some old lost photo albums and decided to scan and post up some of these pics to share with you guys

my first black bear in May 1996. Nothing too special about this hunt, driving back from a fishing trip and there he was, ran off the road and I jumped out, loaded the 7mm Mag, 160 grain X bullet behind the shoulder and I had my first bear..a real monster

in September 1996 I took my first four point buck, spotted him and another similar sized buck sneaking along the edge of a field at first light heading for the timber. Put a bit of a stalk on them and popped over a rise and they were broadside @ 165 yards. I picked what looked to be the biggest and let rip, 7mm Mag w/ 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. Dropped him with a spine hit. My Dad was watching from the hill above me and as he saw it unfold through the binoculars, he saw the deer shake, a big loud WHACK and then boooooom. pretty neat

    was busy skinning that morning

Great pics, wish I started hunting when I was younger.

November 1997 was tough hunting, wasn't seeing many deer. With a few days left in the 4 point season I finally got my chance on this buck. Dropped him at 60 yards with a frontal shot, with a 308 Norma Mag. 165 grain Barnes X penetrated the full length of his body and exited the rearend, 45" of penetration I think.

here's my first moose in 1998. Immature 3x2 bull taken in September. I seen him following a cow in a cutblock above a lake. They were heading right to left in front of me, going in and out of the patchy fog. I quickly got into a good position to shoot and waited for them to come in front of me, I stopped the cow with a grunt and the bull stopped too. One shot with the 7mm Mag and 175 gr X bullet sent him a short distance and down he went, I was pumped, I bet you could hear my yelling 5km away

a few weeks later I was hunting deer with my dad and we had spotted 3 bucks feeding their way towards cover in the early morning. I was holding out for a good buck but my Dad was gonna shoot the first buck he seen (like he always did). We decided to stalk them and try to intercept them on the way to the treeline. My Dad and I were sitting about 20 yards apart, line abreast, when they came right in front of us 30 yards out. My dad shot and this little forkhorn comes trotting right in front of me, I thought my dad had missed or wounded it so I dropped it with the 7mm & 160 gr X bullet. To my surprise, my Dad had shot the 3 pointer (turned out its one side was all screwed up, growing down it's face) which was just out of sight of me due to a small rise...I wasnt too happy I cut my tag on a tiny forkhorn but it made for a good laugh later...

1999, while hunting deer we run into a immature bull & 2 cow moose out in a cut hay field. I stalk within 100 yards using haybales as cover to close the distance from half a KM. One shot with the 7mm Mag w/ 160 gr Nosler Partiton gold moly coated bullet did the trick. Its not everyday you can drive right up to a moose with the truck and load him whole

A month later towards the end of deer season, after passing up an easy shot on a smaller 4 point buck, I finally got a chance at a mature buck. While snoozing in a pile of haybales I looked up to see a doe and the buck out in front of me about 250 yards. With the spotting scope we confirmed it was a 4 point, and I had a very steady rest, basically laying prone on some big bales. I held on his chest and fired, the buck just stood there. I couldnt beleive I could miss, Id been practicing all summer at the range and knew that was well within my reach. I reloaded and shot again, and the buck stumbled a bit. I reloaded again, fired, again, fired, again..fired. I think I shot 7 times as he stood there. he finally bedded down and I had to run back to the truck to get more ammo I got back 5 minutes later and managed to sneak up to the buck, he got up and began to run, I took after him and finally shot, piling him up with a neck shot. 2 of my 7 shots hit him in the front legs, one in the ankle and the other was higher up. The next day I went to the gun range and my gun was hitting 8 inches low at 100 yards, perfect for windage. That was the last time Ive used Weaver scope rings...

September of 2002 I think...my Dad took this buck early in the morning. His usual technique of hiding behind a haybale until it pays off worked again for him. His largest buck (meat hunter) and it turned out to be his last buck he took before he passed away in spring of '04. Nice character buck with 7" bases

September 2003, I had a early LEH hunt in region 6-1 for moose. Fourth day of the hunt we finally see a moose, a couple bulls in a small cutblock. One shot with the Ruger 416 Rem Mag did the trick on the bigger of the two bulls

October 03, hunting with a friend for deer, we stalk up on a couple smaller bucks. We get in position to shoot 150 yards from them, I take the one on the left with the 260 Remington & 140 gr Partitions. Just as I shoot, he shoots the one on the right with 375 H&H & 260 gr Nosler ballistic tip.

and these are the last pics I found, from a trip in 2000

My friend had drawn a caribou LEH, we headed up for a week of hunting. Hiked up from base camp, 3 hr hike to the alpine. Pretty tough for a flabby flatlander deer hunter!

Beautiful country up there, here I am looking through my $80 Bushnell spotting scope

First morning of the season, he pulls the trigger on a tiny bull....8km from camp....

somehow I got tricked into packing it part way back to camp!

    thanks for looking

I too wish I'd started when I was younger, your lucky to have a Dad that had the same interest. I'll bet the picture of your Dads last deer is one of great importance. Thanks TB
Take a kid hunting its more rewarding than shooting an animal yourself!!
