Ball nose typhoon? Sorry Ian i have my own wood shop but this is a new one for me. What does it look like and how does it operate?
John,
Shoot me an email or phone number and we'll take this out of this post..
Ian
P.S. it's a carving burr...
P.P.S. that shaft is 1/4" in reality
Ready to paint!
I love this step, it goes from pieces of wood to a bird right before your eye's. Also tells you really quick if you've hit the mark. If it doesn't project the species in black, all the paint in the world isn't going to help.
Base painting is with a black commercial sign paint, this is to limit any tannins leaching through in the white and light areas. Also gives a great weatherproof base to paint on
Already to start painting with artist's oils!
do you finish with an airbrush? If so what setup do you use?
No Airbrush for me, it will all be painted by hand with artists oils. I used to do some airbrushing used both an Iwata and Paasche AB, but I've come to much prefer good sable brushes and good oil paints. Just a choice at the end of the day. If you are thinking about Airbrushing dekes, shoot me a PM and I can point you in the right direction.
Very best,
Ian
Back from Alberta and nose is right to the grindstone, the pic is a little washed out by the flash BTW.
Almost there, hopefully it'll be dry overnight and I can add some detail to the sidepocket and the striping to the throat and it'll be ready for saturday!
Very best,
Ian
