I am thinking about buying a GPS unit. I really just want it to mark locations....I'm not interested in any other "bells and "whistles". I notice the eTrex is priced very well....seems basic, but is it sufficent?

great little units! hook them up with a computer program like Ozy Explorer and you can do amazing things.
Which model are you looking at. I've got the yellow one which works fine but I'm looking at upgrading to one with the interface for downloading, uploading etc. For basic waypoints and "GoTo's" etc it's great and the prices have really dropped since I bought mine. Battery life is good as well

long enough to see how stupid you look!!!!!
Our Search and Rescue group has a bunch of them. Basiclly bomb proof and user friendly very easy to set up and you are good to go. I see that they are coming on sale in Canadian Tire flier for 74.99 this weekend.
i got a legend cx, it interfaces with a computer as well, just not vista programing.the best deal is the legend/maps canada setup. it is 199.00 at wallyworld.
the topomaps canada is 179.00 at ww, so you get the gps for 20.00.by the way , be careful to only use the program fo your brand , as other brands may not be compatable.threedunter.
I have had the basic Etrex for a few years now. To get you from point A to point B and backout they work well - have saved me alot of walking in the dark. What I really wanted was to pan to other areas, as the display screen only shows where you are standing with the ability to zoom in or out.
I have just upgraded to the 530 HCX and loaded the topographical maps on it. Looking forward to using it next week for the early moose hunt. My son in law has a Rino as well, which will he helpful to keep track of one another when hunting in close proximity as they can display on screen locations of your selected partners.
What ever you get, look up GPScentral, in cowtown. That said the E-trex is hard to beat for $80
Take a kid hunting its more rewarding than shooting an animal yourself!!
send me a pm... I might sell mine (etrex) as I upgraded... cases mounts cables etc....

I am still a map and compass guy however I have used the etrex on occasion and I was quite pleased with its simplicity. Like yourself, I am not a "bells and whistlle" person either.
