    Re: New Backpack Time

Currently using a Lowe Alpine special expedition pack 90L. It's comfortable with loads in the 60-100lb range.

My next major gear purchase is going to be the Mystery Ranch NICE system. It was a toss between that and the Barney.

The decision came down to weight for me... The Barney is a few pounds heavier then the mystery ranch and both packs will haul out huge loads. Both are in the similar price range too... $700-$900 with frame and goodies. Those two are the packs that get my vote... Search and search and you won't find very many bad reviews.

DO a search on here for packs, there has been numerous discussions on them.

I just bought a Mystery Ranch NICE frame and 6500 bag, and have used it a couple of times, it's really, relaly good from initial impresions.

I looked at a buddies Eberlestock pack compared to a MR pack and there really is no comparison for multi day trips, the MR is a far better system. I woudln't mind a Eberlestock j104 as a day pack, though.

Anyway, check out the MR packs- Only thing you won't like is the price.

    I haven't handled a MR yet.

I have a Wilderness Wanderer but would choose a Barney over the WW. Quality is not comparable.
