Home Built Quad Trailer for game recovery

Because I spend so much time hunting solo, I decided to build a trailer to tow behind my quad, in order to get a critter out of the bush.

With my hunting buddies schedule conflicting with mine, I just can't call them up on the cell and scream "Help"....Well Once I did and he came running....Deer are not an issue, but trying to get a big bull elk out of the bush by yourself (especially if archery or early season where heat can ruin it)...So I built this contraption....

Axle is 2 1/2 " heavy duty tube (Freebie, found it at Wasa Walmart (Landfill))

Tongue is 2" medium wall tube ($25)

Bases 2" heavy Duty angle iron (yellow steel) are from a buddies broken horse trailer loading ramp.

Orange steel (1" HD Steel tube) from another friends FU*&^D up headache rack.

Black Steel Cross bars are from another guys FU&^%D up boat rack.

Axle is also from Wasa Walmart...From some sort of Chev FWD car..Not sure what it was...190/60R14 GoodYear Eagles...SHould corner really nice at high speeds

Hand winch - Had it kicking around the garage for years.....

    1 7/8" hitch - Canuck Tire $12.....

SO>>>>>>>>Overall investment +/- $37 plus my time (about 10 hours labor) and 3 lbs of Mig wire ($15) plus some Argon and my gas to go to Wasa and back......

All I have to do now is throw on a piece of plywood as a deck and a little air in the tires and I should be able to get an elk out whole, all by myself...Most of the area I like to hunt is gentle hills with fairly open timber.......

Flipped the spindles over, went from 4" to 13 " clearance.....

Special thanks to PHIL, who sent me some photos of his moose trailer to get my creative thoughts going....

Forgot to add its just under 48" wide for tire footprint, which matches the stance of my quad, as well I should be able to put my quad and trailer on my flatdeck snowmobile trailer quite nicely.....

Unsure if I am going to paint it or just leave it like it is, sort of a natural cmoflauge (black/yellow/orange/rust)

Grind those welds a little bit and it will look like a pro did it. Could use some paint to keep it from rusting up on yah. Do you have a patten on it? or do you mind if a guy borrows an idea or two? Moosin

No patent....Use it, improve it, whatever you like with it....

I was gonna smooth out the welds, just wanted to get this all posted up first...

    Nicely done!
Something is very very wrong though I dont understand how you have all that "free" room in your garage/shop.

Nice to see some "homegrown" stuff still being made. One question. Is it wide enough on the bed to use for recovery of other quads? Not every one you ride with may have a dependable Yamahauler!

Helps to have a pro welder as a hunting partner.

Nice job! I like the side wall design as well as the ramp gate. Can't wait to see pics of it loaded with a beast.
