I have a set of 8x42 Bushnell Legend "roofs" that I used for years and they are a pretty good budget binocular. I really like the "Rainguard" coatings.

For basically the same price ($289 cameralandny) you can buy a set of Nikon Monarch's ATB 8x42 which have better optic reviews.

to be honest I'm not a fan of them, I've had a mine about 2 years now and the coating on the lens seems to have ... well it almost looks like they are wet, but it's like it bubbled, not sure why.I'm actually going to send them in soon, also the twist up eye piece broke, and I'm certainly not hard on my gear.. If I was buying .. I'ld look at something other than bushnell... just my 2 cents worth..
