Time waits for no one, Hunt Now!
308, This is a good draw to have. Four of us had this draw two years ago and we all managed to get our elk. If the weather co-operates, chances of success are very high. Just make sure you make arrangements with land owners in advance as the hunt is limited to private land.
My buddy and I are heading up there on the 3rd, stopping off in PG and carrying on on the 4th, too many animals on the road from what I hear and I don't want to go through the Pine Pass at night this time of the year. Did it once for my buffalo a few years back, not fun. Try and arrange for accomodations before you go, most of the Oil companies have the Hotel/Motel rooms booked for their crews and from what I heard the rates are not cheap. Oh yeah, lots of warm clothing and if you haven't arranged to contact any ranchers get ahold of the CO Office up there and they can provide you with a list to call.
Thanks for your help you guys/gals/undecideds!
We'll keep a weather eye on the roads.
I'm going up this week as well for the draw.
i will post my results next week when i get back on how i did
Just got back from Dawson Creek with 2 cow elk in the back of the truck, the farmers were more than coopertive with allowing us on their property. It was quite a community effort on behalf of the ranchers and hunters up there, Corlane Sports was collecting info from any rancher who had elk problems and directing the hunters in that direction. We managed to pull two cows from two different herds that were visiting a couple of ranchs close to where we were staying, one took 16 hours to get out in minus 25c weather and the second we were able to drive up to with chains on the truck. Every one up there that we met were friendly and helpful, the ranchers were coopertive and more than willing to have the hunting community on their land to help with the over population and damage from the elk. We saw a great number of other moose, mulies, whities and other wildlife during our time up their. One of the hardest and best hunts I have ever been on and would do it all over again given the chance.
Belle....what made this hunt so challenging? Access, cold, wary animals?
