Another Victim of the sport salmon fishery shutdown?

I drove by Lifetimer boatyard in Duncan on the weekend and the once bustling yard was virtually empty..not just recreational fishermen were impacted by the severe restrictions to ‘save the starving orcas’ but the whole support industry has just about disappeared and with it a way of life…frankly, I don’t buy the politically correct story, pods of orcas were never scared off or deterred from coursing right through the sport fishing fleet and the transeants come right into the harbours ,not in the least bothered by propeller noise

    Agree.
Yes, there is a shortage of salmon compared to years ago.
All I can hope is that class action law suite I heard about against Alaska that was won leads to some big changes in their fishing habits.
I still feel a big issue results from there.
And the nets ain’t helping the recovery either.
Ladner used to have a decent commercial fisherman population, Richmond as well.
Dont think much of it exists these days either.

And yet Kingfisher Boats is doing a huge expansion, go figure
Glad to say I have hunted Northern BC

Simon Fraser had pretty good judgement on what he found in BC

A whole way of life has been lost, and I blame government incompetence…the sooke volunteers have been pen raising Chinook smolts to imprint the ‘home’ on them then releasing them-judging from the returns a resounding success …but still shut out from retention

Last time I talked to them it was 18 months to get a spot for a build. There doesn’t appear to be a shortage of guys wanting aluminum boats.
