    Southern Alberta Hunt

Well ......................... Got things finished off here in the frigid snowy badlands
    Semi desert my ass!!

Went out last week in the fresh 6 inches and managed to shoot a nice WT doe for the freezer.

We had an extreme cold warning issued for the area yesterday and I figured that would keep things moving and I was right.
we also had another 6 inches of snow as well.
Finished off my 2022 season with a nice young WT buck.

Very happy especially with the price of fuel and beef to have a few whitetails in the freeze this year. I am always shocked that some meat eaters think that deer is dog food. We also kept the heart and livers this year, also very good eating. Congrats on the hunt, not many look in the out of province hunts threads.

If the world is warming why are there so many new snowflakes?

If we are all equal why do you demand special treatment?

How long do you expect to get your test results back?

We dropled are samples in mcgrath last year and it tool 6months. I was suprised how big the mule deer where and how small the whitetails.

likely be 4 months for CWD results to come back.
Chances are the age of these two deer (especially the doe) that they will be negative.
Had a real long conversation a couple years ago with the biologist from Fish and Fin about CWD to better understand it.
It seems to target older age class bucks and more so in Mule Deer than whitetails.

Yes our southern Alberta Mulies are chunky and the WT tend to be slightly smaller than the northern deer

These little whitetails are a special treat.
Some areas of Southern and SW Alberta have the same subspecies of whitetail you have in southern BC, O.v. ochrourus, the Northwest Whitetailed deer.
In some areas, such as along the US border to Saskatchewan, these deer are even smaller than our typical BC whitetail.

Interesting , I’ve even noticed a difference in the size of whitetail from PG to the peace river area, way bigger bodies.
