I think it was a east coast thing, I remember it being mentioned in some old waterfowl stories. I'v only ever had them from Alberta, any of the grain fed birds are excellent eating.

They call them grey ducks in the south. They are a medium size duck like a widgeon. A lot of waterfowlers prefer Mallards for their mild taste and size. they are considered a puddle duck tipping to feed compared to diving. A lot of hunters let them pass on by and kind of fall in the same eating category as shovelers.
