    Thumbs down Just The Facts

    Bob Hooton:

In recent weeks I’ve commented here on the absence of any acknowledgement of steelhead related concerns in fisheries management decisions influencing stocks originating from the Somass River system near Port Alberni on the central west coast of Vancouver Island. To add clarity for the benefit of those who contend I haven’t done sufficient homework to make a case for co-migrating steelhead being completely ignored in management of fisheries targeting enhanced sockeye and chinook salmon, I offer the facts below.

    https://steelheadvoices.com/?p=3272

What he describes is one of the many reasons the Stamp / Somas system is largely devoid of steelhead these days. A species I built a lifestyle around is under ridiculous pressure...

And in the Globe and Mail, an interesting article on how ill prepared DFO are in protecting "Species at Risk ". Sad to read that even though it has been pointed out that certain fishing stocks are at risk of extinction to DFO, they seem to be so inept and poorly staffed that nothing will be done.

Meanwhile, whitey not allowed to fish for Coho on Fraser because of the (absolutely ridiculous) possibility of catching an Interior Steelhead, which in ~20 years of fishing the Fraser in the same spot I have NEVER caught a steelhead (tidal fraser) and do not know of anyone who has; and native get to string nets halfway across the river because SCIENCE!!! No way native nets will catch any steelhead, but those damn rec anglers are going to cause steelhead go extinct with all the steelhead that they NEVER catch in the tidal fraser

Makes total sense to me. Thanks government

This started a long time ago. You could buy steelhead by the box full from the FN gillnetter's in the Skeena river. If they couldn't sell them for cheap they dumped them somewhere. A bank manager in a un-named town got 113 pounds of salmon and steelhead out of a dumpster after he watch the FN gillnetting boat throw them in there and leave.
A co-op manager in Bella Coola rescued 30 salmon from beside a garbage can because the garbage can was full of fish already.

Look around is there someone you can introduce to shooting because that’s the only way we will buck the anti gun trend sweeping Canada! "tigrr 2006"

What a shame in 2022 that there are still open statements such as these couple of posts using references to Indians and Whiteys on a public forum displaying open racism and they are still tolerated. I understood this is a hunting forum and yet there seems to be a solid racist bent from the same people on nearly every subject. Maybe the owner of the webhosting services would like to know what his company is responsible for hosting. Come on fellas we have to at least try and censor this forum from this shit. You cant be controlled from thinking it but as a society we can at least try and control when you chose to share it on a public forum.

Do you need a hug? Looking through some of your 100 great contributions to HBC over the past 11 years, it doesn't take very long to see that this isn't the first time you've accused other HBC members of being racist.

It might be hard for you to tell by looking at my avatar, but I'm white. Referring to myself as "Whitey" is not racist or derogatory - it is factual. Pointing out that we live in a two standard system of rules for FN and non FN when it comes to hunting and fishing opportunities in BC is also not racist or derogatory - it is the truth.

Threatening to tattle to the owner about factual information being discussed and calling for more censorship is frankly pathetic. Attitudes like this epitomize why our society is going to shit
