    Alberta Moose Hunt

Hunting dates were Sep 13-18, which is pre-rut in west-central Alberta.

I was hunting in WMU 349, NW of Whitecourt, in the Swan Hills region.

My crossbow is an Excalibur Bulldog 400, and I was using 20" Carbon Express Piledriver bolts @ 442grs. Broadhead is the Excalibur Boltcutter, 150gr 3-blade. That combination chronographs at 330fps.

That broadhead did not cut a very big entrance/exit hole, but literally zipped right through my bull moose. I think the thing went another 10 yards off into the trees actually, I was unable to recover the bolt.
I intend to go back another day if I can find a metal detector to borrow.

The fronts went 178-180lbs, hinds were 85lbs each.

I can safely say the best tasting moose I've ever eaten!

Appreciate the compliments guys, hope you enjoyed my video?

Pretty bad brain cramp on the first big bull, eh? Oops...

Needed a do-over there, but really in the end I was fortunate to not take that bull as it likely would not have been near as good table fare as the one I killed later.

Thats a pretty nice bull and some fine looking meat.
Really curious how you were able to use a crossbow during bow only season? Crossbows in Alberta do not fall in the archery classification.
If the world is warming why are there so many new snowflakes?

If we are all equal why do you demand special treatment?

You can not comply your way out of tyranny.

    Fire them ALL!

They do if you have the proper permits.
I have one which allows me to hunt in Alberta's regular archery seasons with my crossbow.
Used to have to renew it annually. Now good for life.

    Re: Alberta Moose Hunt

Ya basically a bum right shoulder.
Alberta has an application form that you fill out and submit to the govt, and in my case I had Xrays and MRI's done, which showed
that my right shoulder was buggered.
So getting the crossbow permit for me just involved going through the process.

Last time I bow hunted with a compound was 2004. I called in this young bull, made a 60 yard shot on him, center punched the lungs.
That old PSE only shot 245fps.
