    Region 7-43 road access

Does anyone have any recent information on road access into Region 7-43 from Pink Mountain. My partner used to hunt there but has not been in there years. Thanks

You’d have to be more specific on which road. Cypress?

Wanting to know general condition of Cypress Creek Road and whether the bridge is ok to cross over Halfway River. We could also go in on Upper Halfway Road if it is in better shape.

We are hoping to set up camp either around the Chowade River or around Grave Creek and explore both north and south. Looking for elk opportunities or moose.

    thanks

Sorry first post was too brief. Needed my map to improve.

Most of the roads up there are kept in decent shape unless it's spring breakup then anything can happen.

Is the Upper Halfway road a better road into the area than the Cypress Creek road?

The Cypress is in good shape, but you can't get past Big Creek unless you have a quad as they pulled the bridge. If you want to camp on the Chowade, you will either have to come in from the Halfway Graham or pack your stuff in from Big Creek. Either way will be real busy as there is minimal campsites (one on either side of the river). There is an old runway just before you cross over Robertson creek that most people camp at. The Cypress Creek road is mostly graveled and will still be in reasonable shape if it rains, but the rest will turn to a silty, muddy mess when it rains, so make sure you have the right equipment.

Expect lots of vehicle and hunter traffic, but if you don't mind walking, there is some moose and elk in the bush.

    Cheers

We hunted that area for years. We have found the elk are not really in there once the end of September hits. Early season is best. The moose hunting has always been decent but it can get very busy and we have almost not made it out several times due to snow and poor road conditions if it rains. We have always pulled out around October 10th and now with the moose closures for the first part of October we have chose to hunt a different area as I would not want to be pushing back into that country come middle of October when the weather starts to really turn. Bring chains, winches, jack alls etc. if you do plan to brave it. It is rugged but beautiful country.
