I saw a hen shielding newly hatched ducklings and other eggs were showing ducklings hatching so I went back in the morning to try to capture jump pictures again.
The farmers 10yr old grandson is duck crazy and had suggested this area for boxes, he wanted to sit and wait for the hatch and was there outside the house at 5:45 when I pulled up!
The hen showed at 9:30am, she sat half out of the box for an hour and finally flew down. She started to call, then moved around the area calling intermittently. The ducklings were a no-show!
Close to 1pm the hen changed her call. After calling twice, the ducklings started to show and we started taking pictures.
It was over fast, a small clutch of 7 with one egg not hatching this time.
Great patience by young Clayton, I'm sure a day he won't ever forget!
