I met a guy Turkey hunting in April who owns a bunch of Shell stations in the LML. He was saying a lot of the smaller “independent” stations in the interior are now owned by the same group. They are purposely buying them all up so they can jack prices up by removing competitors. Here at the lake, one of our longtime (40+ year) locals asked the staff of one of these stations how they could justify charging $.20 or $.25 per liter more than stations in the next town (Trail), and the reply was “because we can”. Luckily we have the option of buying in the US at the station right at the border, which is owned by a group of four local BC people so the money goes back to our community. The gougers can get phucked!
