    Map of Lyme Risk Areas

The province has released an updated map that outlines (what they believe) to be the areas of the province where you're most at risk of potentially catching lyme disease if you get bit by a tick and don't get it off you in time. Not sure how accurate this map is, as I seem to recall newhunterette talking about her struggles with Lyme disease a few years ago, and if I recall correctly, she believed she got bit in the Cariboo, and according to this map the Cariboo is not a hot spot. Regardless, hopefully this might be helpful to some - always a good idea to double check yourself after a day in the field wherever you're located in this province

I'm in a good spot, no problem around here, but I had no idea all of the Lower Mainland is in there.
I hiked a lot on the North Shore, Squamish area but never seen a tick.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tick anywhere, but my old stomping grounds on the north end of the island seem to be a hot spot. It was common knowledge or at least common belief in my circle that there weren’t any ticks up that way.

Lots of ticks come crawling out of the blacktail post mortem. It's kinda creepy.

No problem. Ya I had no idea there were ticks down here either until one of my dogs got one on her last year. There are a ton of ticks along the top of the Coquihalla too if you can believe it. Caddisguy has gotten plenty on him and he hunts Reg 2. Plenty near Kamloops too and south Okanagan. But have never heard of any on the Island. I do know their range is expanding in Canada. My wife is a bit of a magnet for them so always have to check wherever we go in the woods. Awful little critters - just ask Husky7mm

I got a few ticks from hunting around Culliton Creek on the sea to sky years ago. Get some permethrin to treat your clothes if you can.

Always some ticks around the Pemberton area. Some years are worse than others. Lots of leeches in the local lakes in the last few summers, too. Everything is out for your blood!

Oh they're here alright. Boogs used to pick them up frequently, and I had a few latch onto me as well.

Local Gal I know got Lyme from one which was misdiagnosed for a couple years too many.
She will be paying for that over the rest of her life and it most certainly is not fun.

Tons around Harrison. Got bit by one a couple seasons ago and got it out clean right away. No bullseye or anything. Lost it in the dirt so never was able to get it checked. Called my doc the next day and he said not to worry about it. Never had any symptoms.
