To my eye the brown patches on that bear looks like he's rubbed. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for the first week of June around Region 8. The hide around the tail is quite often the first area to rub out, but I can't see it in the pics.

Aside from all that, congrats on your bear and mushroom success.

got the bear mid May, but.. you are probably right, it’s my latest bear and usually the earlier ones have their thick lush hides still so it’s jet black.

Plenry of delicious meat though.

will throw those up asap, apparently the picture I took right after harvest was a blurry mess, have to haul the hide out of the freezer for the skull and claws before I dispose of it.
