Water softener has been #1 for me. I find everything skips right on past the salt blocks for it (goats / moose / deer)

Buckerfield's sells a product called COB, corn, oats, barley with some molasses mixed in that works good.

Bags of rock salt from Canadian tire. Under $5 for a 10kg bag. Make sure it’s pure rock salt with no additives.
I use a friends recipe for deer crack. They love it
The issue with this right now would be bears coming out in the spring and eating it all?
I used COB in feed bags for the winter and the deer cleared out all out between mid November and mid December. They loved it

I have experimented A LOT with a ton of different attractants over the years. Some things worked for certain species, while didn't work for others. After many years of trial and error, without question and by a country mile, Primos Take Out Red Zone Primos® Take Out Granular Mineral Redzone Bag | Cabela's Canada (cabelas.ca) is the best I've ever used. Its got a bunch of key minerals in it (no chemicals) and beets so you're not feeding the deer anything harmful. And ALL species (BT, WT and MD) absolutely go bananas for it! I've even had moose go at the brick style of this stuff. Bears will come to smell what it is because its very aromatic, but they couldn't care less about eating it.
This has been my go-to stuff for about 4-5 years now. Last year I bought 10 bags of it because it was getting harder to find because of supply shortages, but I will be moving to Alberta this year and not allowed to bait deer there. So there is a very good chance I will have some bags left over if you might be interested in giving it a try. If you're interested send me a PM and we can work out a deal (I live in lower wasteland too). Now is definitely the time to start putting mineral licks out there. (Surprised our socialist tyrannical govt hasn't banned baiting deer yet - only a matter of time)

Be careful using water softener salt as it can have other chemicals not meant for animals. I have used trace mineral and pool salt.
