I don't drain it, but you can pump it near the main artery running into the Liver while running it under water. Also soaking it in Milk works. Do a Youtube search and you can find ways
Just like the first post by Dannybuoy. Rinse well in cold water, 1/2" strips, milk, flour, onions, in a hot cast iron pan. Served with mashed spuds and corn. Fresh is best and don't over cook it.

Over night in cold salty water before slicing and cooking.
We've always blanched the liver before coating and cooking....best to NOT over cook it and slow cook the onions in butter.
The liver is usually the first part to be eaten, getting hungry just thinking about it.
Post kill ritual for me is a feed of fried liver. Sliced thin, patted dry, salt and peppered, then seared in hot butter and served rare with caramelized onions. So simple and so good.
People either love it or hate it. Most of the haters I know were forced to eat overcooked liver which can be kinda gross, so don't overcook it.
Love it fried with onions and bacon or onions and peices of apple but I don't f**k it up with milk or marinade.
Soaking it in water always good to drain as much blood out of it as possible.
I never salt liver till it's cooked, otherwise it will get tough.
