    Your best insulating layer

Hey wanted to see what everyone uses for an insulating layer in cold weather. I currently have a merino base layer, Kuiu peloton 240, an underarmour hooded sweatshirt and kuiu Yukon when it’s wet and windy. I’m looking to swap out the under armour sweatshirt because it’s bulky and heavy. I’m thinking either a soft shell or a puffy would be a good piece to have, wondering what you all use. I’m not necessarily looking for hunting specific brands either as I do a lot of hiking in addition to hunting.

Favourite piece is a Taiga fleece vest with gore windstopper- over 30 yrs old and still my favourite, even tho I have a new version . Old one is thin and comfortable.
Everything else is all about merino wool. Quick to dry, insulates when sweaty, and doesn’t stink

Hiking mainly. Something to keep me warm while glassing. That kind of thing.

Stanfield poly/merino long sleeve shirt and an old school Stanfield wool sweater. Open and close the sweater flap to regulate heat

Polyester or wool. Cheap generic brands, overlayered by sweats.

Take a look at paradox brand. Costco sells it this time of year. It's about $20 a piece, for either tops or bottoms. It is a merino wool blend. May be just what your looking for.

Merino, stanfield, taiga down vest, sitka cloudburst. (I think cloud burst)
I’ll remove layers as I need and add for resting or glassing.
I have a set of taiga down pants too, for glassing long periods of time.
