Not allowed to keep invasive smallmouth bass in Cultus. WTF??????

I just read the regs and you are not allowed to fish for or keep any invasive smallmouth bass caught in Cultus Lake.

Can anyone explain the logic in this?

Is it to keep them from spreading???????

    Where did you read that?
According to this you have to return "pink tagged bass" only

Where does it say that? To my knowledge, any bass caught in there are not allowed to be released.

Very simple, we don't want people encouraged to spread the bass to other waters. In Region 5 Cariboo you are not allowed to even fish for bass. If the smallies get established in the Fraser, say goodbye to the Salmon.

Region 5 Daily Quotas(See tables for exceptions)
Bass: 0 quota, CLOSED TO ALL FISHING

That makes no sense. Just kill it. A dead fish can't invade anything.

I think there was a story in the news a few months ago.
Take all of them, don't release any of them.
As for the pink tagged ones, I know nothing about that.
Not sure why they would want you to throw them back when they really want them gone?
Maybe to figure out where they are spawning so they can go in a wreck the eggs by diving??
Big issue I suppose to poison the lake since people live there.

No targeting, no retention. They’re in the Beaver Lake chain which I believe ties into the Quesnel River(hello, Mr Rupp?), which dumps into the Fraser.

Take a camp stove and a frying pan with some butter, salt and pepper and enjoy. Never caught one fishing in the beaver valley chain.
