Good idea to just get it tanned and hang it with a proper hanger by the nose
Pretty soon you will have a row of them like suits in a closet, maybe different colours, each with a story

Never say whoa in the middle of a mud hole
I have a bunch of rugs on the wall (grizz, black, wolves) and now think to myself “what was I thinking”
would like to sell them now but wouldn’t know where to put them up
in my opinion, don’t bother.
First 2 average size Black Bears the little Wife shot, after having the Fur tanned she made them into a sexy looking Jacket keeping her warm on those -25C Winter Shopping days in Prince George. Helped her to be a Swiss trained professional Fur Seamstress.
Cheers

Provided the hide is decent at minimum tanned. I'm happy I got my first rugged, but I don't really have a good spot for it.

I'd listen to Srupp and Harry Toolips
Keep the skull and the claws.
And wait till you get a big bear or go shouldar mount. Or go half a bear shouldar mount with the two front legs that is what we have and looks pretty nice. This was a bigger bear though.
Rugs are kind of nice but if you put them on the floor which we did you always walk in to the dam mouth and stub your toe.
Go and check out taxidermists work first.
Nothing is like climbing a mountain, and then feeling like you are at the top of the world.
I'm in the same place as yourself. I shot my first blackie this Spring too. I opted to have the bear made into a rug and I shipped it over to Ray Weins. It will take some time to get back, but I don't have any regrets at this time, even though it is rather expensive. You never forget your first bear and I think if you're debating it you should do it. It's around $2000.
