When do deer start to rub...?

Came across a rub this last weekend that looked super fresh, but it's still too early, no? Got me thinking, though: When DO deer start to rub? Around September??? Google didn't really provide much insights.....

    Thoughts?

End of August or early September. Way too early (in BC anyway) for deer to start rubbing their velvet off right now - antlers are still growing
