    Surf n Turf Trip Ideas?

Hey, I'm trying to plan a 9 day Surf n Turf trip for the end of September and looking for ideas...

I've been looking at Stewart and Kitimat..i've never been to either place but it sounds like an adventure.

We would like to fish and hunt goats or deer from the boat or access areas by boat. We'll be bringing rods, down riggers, puller, prawn traps, crab traps, freezer and generator. We'd prefer to camp in the wilderness somewhere rather than town but will take what we can get.

Is there any ocean coho opportunity late september in either place?

How far do you need to go for decent bottom fishing?

Anybody wanna pm some general areas we'd see goats out of Kitimat or Stewart?

The family loves black bear ground meat, my gut tells me they wouldn't be worth shooting up there cause of the fish? Am I right?

Campground suggestions? Any boat access camp spots with docks or a river to pull into? I won't need much water as long as Im above the tide..

My boat will be a 16 foot Stryker aluminum tunnel hull RIB that is on it's way now which I have a 115/80 jet waiting for it. It has a 120 L tank and ill have to do a bunch of experimenting to find out cruising speed and gallons per hour loaded etc. My last boat was a soft bottom roll up inflatable with a 80/60 jet which we took everywhere including off the west coast of the charlottes so this should be an improvement in overall performance, I wouldn't be surprised if this one is better on fuel. That soft bottom had a ton of drag...

Not looking for a road map, just some general ideas to help guide the adventure. Thanks.

Have a look at Work Channel near Prince Rupert. There’s a few YouTube videos about the area. Looks like some good coho fishing out of the mouth of the inlet, plenty whales in that area also. Boats can be launched from a rustic camping area at the end of the inlet.

Not Stewart, a slide can trap you in there for 3 weeks.
Kitimat or Rupert. Buy maps for the area you choose. It shows anchorages.

Haida Gwaii sounds cool as I know what to expect having been there a couple times before but the ferries are such a pain in the ass. Your stuck to the arrival departure dates and they don't run every day and if weather picks up you have delays..

I like stewart cause you can limit fish from the US and Canadian side and there has gotta be goats in those mountains seen from the canal..

Kitimat sounds cool cause of the exploring, Gardner inlet looks breathtaking and has gotta hold goats, plus the hotsprings..

Work channel seems good for the camping aspect but lacks the turf hunting portion...

I would go to Rupert and use that as your base, goats within and hour or two, fishing for crabs, prawns, salmon, bottom fish, all the amenities you need......and if you're a poor fisherman lots of places to eat !!!!

Kitimat would be ok but you have to run so far for really good fishing.

How come you're not considering Terrace as a base? Lots of good spots to fish the Skeena (assuming they open it this year) for summer runs and the river is usually still pretty clear into September. Lakelse Lake south of town used to be great fishing (this was 20 years ago) and I can only assume its still good today. A cool place to take the kids would be up north through the Nass Valley to see the Lava beds area; and if you wanted to show them Grizzly bears, we almost always used to see them at the Nass Camp dump every time we went. I never hunted that area (just worked there), but the natives used to tell me that the inland bears closer to Meziadin junction and further inland that feed on the berries taste awesome. You might even see a Kermode. Goats in every direction as far as I know (there's some expert goat hunters on here that will be able to chime in). Also, if they open the border you could take a trip to Hyder and get "Hyderized" at the Glacier Inn with their home made Everclear.

Its gorgeous country all over up there - must say I'm jealous. Good luck with whichever area you choose and have blast

Lived at lakelse lake for over 20 years, I wouldn't send anyone there for the fishing.

Personally I would hit up meziaden or kinaskan!
