First off before I say anything , I’d like to thank Steve Rupp for his immense knowledge and him willing to share and teach us how to be successful black bear hunters. This year my friend , his brother and I were on our own. This would be our third year into a certain area. To be able to use what Steve has taught us and to be able to put it to use this year was incredible. Forever thankful to you sir.

The weather this year was not typical for what it usually is in our given time slot. 25 degree and hot blazing sun for the first two days, seeming like we where a bit too early for spring green up. Not tons of bright green grass and dandelions. Next two days were thunderstorms , rain and even snowing for 4 hours. The last two days were overcast and some sun. By this time everything was greening up nicely.

Day 2 of our trip we where heading back to camp. Left an area around 7:30 for our ride back home. We bump this nice size black bear off the road so we continue to ride past about 200yards and shut the atvs off. We wait 20 mins then send his brother back up this side road out of sight. BANG! Makes a great shot , bear goes 40 feet and we find him pretty fast. Very nice male black bear. His first ever big game harvest. We spend the night skinning it out at camp having a great time.

Day 3 we hung around camp till 1pm, James and I went out looking for rounds for the fire. Went out to some clear cuts then we split up and I check out this one spur road with lots of grass. Cruise in slowly until a dead end with fallen trees. Turn around and head back out slow looking at this green hill side. I see a black stump that makes you do the double take. It moves! I grab my rifle and I lose sight of the bear. I walk up 30yards to a dead fall tree, see the black bear eating behind a bushy tree 87 yards away. I have to watch it feed out broadside, have the perfect rest and shoot! Falls right in its tracks! Super happy with this bear, will make tasty pepperoni and ground with it. I’d say five and a half foot bear.
Upon skinning it I found the mushroomed bullet , pretty cool first find. I was surprised it didn’t pass through.

Day 5
we make the big day trip on atvs to the otherside , we split up and decide to sit from 3pm to 8:30 that night. 6:30pm comes around and I hear a distant gunshot in James direction. I get the text on the inreach bear down. James had watched this bear walk out into a meadow to feed and it was a beautiful colour phased bear. Was great to see him find a bear, pressure was on for him as the trip was coming to an end soon siince the first bear was shot on day 2 of trip.

Was a fantastic trip all around. Everyone successfull and some more memories made. We were seeing bears everyday , cow moose and deer. Truly a slice of heaven up there.

Will get pics up soon
