    Thumbs up Garlic Harvest 2023

Got home just in time for the Garlic Harvest:

    Now hanging to cure:

The Bulbils are getting rather close:

While the product of last year's Bulbils (and next year's crop) are doing fine overall:

    Cheers,

We have a Cold Room under the stairs to the basement.
I hang them in there once cured, and they will last around 10 months or so.

    Hi Nog
My better half is growing garlic this year and she has a few questions for you ,if you don’t mind .
The picture of the bulbis that showed the inside of the bulbis was that on the scape ? Also do you use the contents to plant the following year ? What do you do with the contents of the bulbis to make it ready for next year ?
    Thank You !

The Bulbils form on the scapes. Let them ripen, and they form a bud as shown above with a multitude of miniature garlic clones inside of therm (the purple parts showing above). Harvest them when the bud opens and the Bulbils are about to fall off.

Plant them in the spring for a fall harvest.
Then re-plant them around October to produce the next season's crop.

All of those pictured above were produced by that method.
Means we get to eat all of the year's production rather than using some of it for seed purposes.

    Works very well.

I just dug up my garlic two days ago... my tops were no longer green, mostly white and brown. Hanging covered and in shade right now... to my basement later. Only about 40 plants but very large... Tibet, Georgian, Red Russian.

Got ours drying in the shop now, going to peel a bunch and put it in oil so it will last longer and stay fresher so I am told, worth a try.
