Where is Christian Lake?
Growing old is unavoidable. Growing up is highly overrated....
You mean Burbot? Burbot is a fresh water ling I assume. You need a depth sounder so you can find a deep hole they live in.
The challenge of retirement is how to spend time without spending money.
The worst day slinging lead is still better than the best day working.
Look around is there someone you can introduce to shooting because that’s the only way we will buck the anti gun trend sweeping Canada! "tigrr 2006"
Not right now, they will be up on the shallow flats making babies. We catch them all the time in 5-15' of water at this time of year. Hotdogs, chunk of moose meat, old herring, anything greasy, smelly, bloody or oily works great. Can also catch them with jigging lures. Better in the early morning and late into night than mid day.
Ice them down fast, cut the skin around the head and down the spine, then grab the skin with pliers and pull it away from the body. Take out the two long loins and keep them on ice until ready to eat. Poor mans lobsters! Gets tough if you freeze too long or over cook.
No idea about Christian (or Christina) Lake, go try and see.
Cheers

Burbot are actually a type of catfish. People call them fresh water lings because of the big head, long skinny body and the colour. Luckily they don't have the same teeth.
Another thing to do when you fish catch them is, don't bonk them on the head, instead, clip the tip of their tail off with a knife or garden shears and let them bleed out. Less blood in your white meat fillets.
When active fishing best times are an hour before to an hour after sunrise/sunset.
Set Lines work all day long.
Sorry for the spelling, its Christina Lake. We fished them in the winter by boat if the lake was not frozen and by ice if it was, it was about 30 years ago and today I talk to some people that are fishing on the lake about them and they just give me a blank look >Like what are you talking about. They are gone from the lake or no one fishes for them any more.
Did you ever ice fish the pumpkinseed or sunfish whatever they are?
We used to fish for them in Christina Lake 45 years ago and had pretty good success thru the ice. You could tell when things were hot because the ice would have lots of blood around the holes from the bleeding. Maybe overfishing killed them off.
See if you can talk to a CO from the area to find out what happened.
