    Saltwater Fishing from Shore

How viable is it? Can it be done throughout the summer?

Fatherhood has really hampered hunting for me, but my wife and daughter love the beach. Would anyone like to offer advice for surf casting? Salmon, lingcod, rock cod, anything edible interests me.

Qualicum ? For sure. Folks used to live at Beachcomber , we visited often casting zingers and buzz bombs produced some nice rock fish, and once and a while surprised with a coho. Dad used to get out and surf cast flys on the sandy flats, hours of quiet interrupted by minutes of mayhem. Mostly trolled in a tinner around Winchelsey and often had to go ashore to wait out the wind, spent time casting and picking oysters

Yah, I passed through there a couple of times last year.
    Love that ice cream joint.
For ocean fishing from shore you want to find depth.
But you have to check the regs to see what you can fish for.
I'm sure you could catch salmon somewhere near the mouth of the little qualicum river.
    Or the other qualicum.
But check the regs I guess.

Anywhere you can stand on a cliffy rock out cropping with access to deeper water you have a chance for rockfish or lings with buzz bombs or plastic swim baits...not so great for the wife and kids...

Ya check the regs for sure. All this barbless, baitless, fishless crap is getting out of hand. It used to be fun to hook on a piece of herring and cast out and wait. Caught everything from salmon to halibut. That was back in 96.
The challenge of retirement is how to spend time without spending money.
The worst day slinging lead is still better than the best day working.
Look around is there someone you can introduce to shooting because that’s the only way we will buck the anti gun trend sweeping Canada! "tigrr 2006"

I fished this style with my brother in law near sooke. I was down with the surf crashing all around me to net a big spring my BIL caught. Definitely not for the faint of heart or kids like you said. Big spring from shore is real nice prize though

I used to do well on the Parkville side of the mouth of Englishman's River if the tide was right. But I moved off the Island 40 plus years ago. Probable all houses now.
