Asking permission to hunt grazing leases/private property

From my understanding under the trespass act, leasee's have the right to restrict access of the public into the leased crown land. They also have the right to permit access onto said land.

How can I confirm a parcel is leased from the Crown, and who the lessee is, to ask for permission to hunt it?

I've also heard that if the parcel is clear of cattle then the public may legally "trespass" over the parcel, but have not seen anything official to confirm this. Is there any validity to this or is it just wishful thinking from someone that wanted access and a means of justifying trespassing.

When it comes to private land, is there any trick to find contact info of the owner of a lot void of a house? I know I could pull the title but at $15 a pop and all I get is a name, it can add up pretty quick before I was able to actually get in touch with someone and even more before finally getting permission.

Just for a bit of context, I'm looking for a spot to hunt a LEH who's boundary contains almost no crown land except leased land.

Bang on doors nearby? Locals will know who owns or leases land in the area.

If you have the land file number you can look up details that include the interest holder(s):

    http://a100.gov.bc.ca/pub/pls/gator/...by_file_number

If you need to find the land file number you can do that using iMapBC:

    https://maps.gov.bc.ca/ess/hm/imap4m/

    or

    https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/range-tenure

Thanks, that worked for a lease, not for private however but still very helpful. One parcel I'm interested in is leased by the city, any idea who I'd talk to about getting permission in that situation?

I'm finding it challenging to get contact info with just a name as well.

For private land you may be able to dig something up using myLTSA and ParcelMap.

With an LTSA Enterprise account (I have it through work, so no idea of cost) you can pull titles, which is the only reliable way to obtain ownership info. LTSA Explorer is the simple version (I believe it's free) but I think you have to pay per document pulled...

Obtaining ownership info is a true test of sleuthing. Even when you get names, the contact info is tough to track down. Thankfully, most rural inhabitants still rock land lines and are in the phone directory. But, many times the owners live in the city and only have cell phones, in which case they're next to impossible to track down...
