    Not many deer in 7-13 unless you're on private farmland

    Here's some 7-13 moose harvest stats (combined LEH / GOS spike fork moose, LEH cow, GOS calf)

    2014-2018 5yr average
    50 moose kills per season (80% bulls, 20% calves)
    4865 hunter days in field per season / 518 hunters per season (9.4 days in field average per hunter)
    97 hunter days per moose kill
    10% harvest success ratio

    2009-2013 5yr average
    125 moose kills per season (52% bulls, 11% cows, 37% calves)
    5365 hunter days in field per season / 572 hunters per season (9.4 days in field average per hunter)
    43 hunter days per moose kill
    22% harvest success ratio


    2004-2008 5yr average
    137 moose kills per season (57% bulls, 18% cows, 25% calves)
    3782 hunter days in field per season / 504 hunters per season (7.5 days in field average per hunter)
    28 hunter days per moose kill
    27% harvest success ratio


    1999-2003 5yr average
    144 moose kills per season (59% bulls, 11% cows, 29% calves)
    5143 hunter days in field per season / 603 hunters per season (8.5 days in field average per hunter)
    36 hunter days per moose kill
    24% harvest success ratio

    Damn that’s sobering. I wonder how much part did the fire play. I saw lots of sign and a cow n calf but no bulls yet. General consensus here seems to be that their ain’t that many moose left.

    What the harvest stats suggest, and what you see in the field, do jive. No dip in hunter effort, guys/gals are out there trying to fill tags that's for sure. LEH tag holders for 7-13 that I know of from the last few years have killed bulls with minimal effort, hunted hard with no success until late season, or ate tag soup. A healthy mix of all types of results. In 2019 it was promising to see the amount of calves I was seeing over 2018. Haven't seen too many moose yet in 2020 but not much time spent in the field in 7-13 either, yet.
